It is Veteran’s Day, and for those that have served and those who are serving, I share these pictures.
While cleaning out the garage a few weeks ago, I found this picture of my beloved Uncle Jimmy. He was my father’s baby brother. The date on the back of the photo reads “Christmas 1944”. I was shocked to find this photograph, and I knew immediately that I wanted to share it with you on this Veteran’s Day. Uncle Jimmy lived with us for a time after the war, and I dearly loved him.
Then I decided to find other pictures of veterans in our family. This is Ever-Lovin’s father. This photo was taken while he served in the Army Air Corp in Pampa, Texas.
This is my father and mother’s wedding picture. They married on a three day pass, and he was soon deployed to serve in Europe under General Patton. He was among the veterans that never talked about the war, and we never watched war movies in our home. He did go to see the movie Patton because he had the upmost admiration for General Patton.
This is Ever-Lovin’ in 1969. It is his basic training photo for the annual. Later, he served with the Combat Engineers in Germany.
With heartfelt gratitude, we honor all who served, and especially the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Recently, Rose Mary Rumbley mentioned that many of the world’s greatest inventions were invented in America because we have had the freedom to think. Veterans fought for our freedoms, and to them we give thanks.
At another time, I heard a veteran speak, and he said he is often asked what we can do for our soldiers. His answer was for us to be sure to make this a nation worth fighting for. That has stuck with me. What a responsibility we have.
Blessings to you and yours,
