Wow! Going to the Texas Rose Festival in Tyler, Texas was this blogger’s nirvana. We partied with thousands of strangers at the Queen’s Tea, attended our first National Rose Show, toured the famed Tyler Rose Gardens, and visited the interesting Rose Museum. All of this happened in the span of about four hours, and all of the events seem to be blog worthy.
We had never been to a flower show much less a Rose Show. On top of that, it was an AMERICAN ROSE SOCIETY NATIONAL ROSE SHOW. Sounds majorly important to me. There were so many categories, and we honestly didn’t know what was what, but we saw some pretty roses.
In the large room, tables were filled with the rose entries. The judging had taken place the day before.
So many different colors and shades of colors were on display.
Is that not beautiful!
I can not imagine the pressure of having roses at the peak of perfection on a certain day for the show.
I think this was a “Dolly Parton” rose. I have this rose growing in my backyard rose bed. (It made me feel good just to know that it won.) “Dolly Parton” also won in the “most fragrant” category.
What a beautiful variegated pink rose.
“Red Intuition” is the name of this rose. I love the multitude of petals.
“Let Freedom Ring” – I think the people who entered this rose came from South Carolina. How do they do that?
“My Lady Barbara” – I think I read that some roses on display were from the Tyler Rose Garden. Since the tag on this rose did not specify who entered this specimen, maybe “My Lady Barbara” came from the Tyler Rose Garden.
I don’t know the name, but it is so pretty.
“Pop Warner” was named for a famous rosarian – not the football coach. This rose won a blue ribbon.
“Hey Jack” was awarded the prize for best Hybrid Tea Open Bloom.
Best Polyantha Spray went to “Wing-Ding”.
Some roses were displayed on boards – there were little vases under the boards.
Miniature National Trophy
So many varieties.
What an unusual arrangement. This could be table centerpieces.
A blue ribbon and a crystal bowl.
The addition of the rosemary is interesting in this arrangement.
This arrangement won a blue ribbon and the Oriental Award.
Amazing! This arrangement is on a candlestick.
Visiting the Rose Show was very interesting. I wish I understood more about the categories and types of roses.
Blessings to you and yours,
Yes, this is a lot of pictures, but…trust me – there could have been a lot more.
