Texas is Going to Alabama

Texas is going to Alabama.  That just does not sound right – Does it?  Texas going to Alabama?  It is true. Tex – has chosen to follow in Dave’s footsteps and attend The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  I love saying Tuscaloosa, and I think I will insert it in this blog as many times as I can – Not really, but it is fun to say.  Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa, – okay, I will stop.

This is Texas at his graduation last May.  See all the ribbons around his neck.  That means that he graduated with honors.  Pretty impressive.

No party is complete without a cake.  The handsome boy pictured on the cake is wonderful Tex.  Tex is wonderful.  It is true.  He is a fantastic person.  He is as friendly and upstanding as he is smart.

For decorations there was no shortage of UA memorabilia.

On our table was a Big Al bobble – his entire body bobbled so I couldn’t call it a bobble head.  Okay, I am clueless when it come to Alabama football. (Sorry Dave)  I loved hearing how the elephant became their mascot.

The origin of the mascot dates back to 1930. On October 8, a sportswriter wrote about the previous weekend’s Alabama-Ole Miss football game. The writer, using the flair for the dramatic common in sportswriting at the time, wrote that an anonymous fan yelled out “Hold your horses, the elephants are coming!” upon hearing the rumble of the first team coming on the field. The name stuck throughout what became a national championship season and beyond. (Wikipedia)

In 1979 Big Al became an official mascot for the Crimson Tide.

Then there was the football signed by none other than Alabama coach Gene Stallings.  I do wish I could remember the backstory about this football.

This was so cute.  It is a hanging burlap football with a big crimson A.

Sweet Debbie (right) and Becky (center) hosted this party as a graduation/send-off party for Tex.  Debbie arranged for us to gather at Chili’s.   We had so much fun.

Friends young and young at heart gathered to celebrate.

Tex’s has had this friend since 4th or 5th grade.  Long-lasting friendships are the best.

It was great fun getting to be around young folks. They are so cute and full of life.

Getting to visit with Judy made my day.  Everyone wanted a chance to visit with her, and Excellent Cook Nancy took advantage of the opportunity.

Drinks and appetizers flowed throughout the party.  First we were served chips and hot sauce – so good.

I can still remember the first time I had Chili’s Southwestern Eggrolls – that is how good they are.

Nachos – yum.  The plate is half full because we chowed down before I remembered to take a picture.

We also had guacamole, but I was too busy eating it to take a picture.  There were sliders, and more.  It was a good thing.

Miss Jane and Mr. John are fellow Alabamians.  Mr. John always looks dapper – even in his Alabama cap.

Much love and well wishes are following Tex as he is Bama Bound.  Roll Tide Roll! (Hope they have a winning season.)

Blessings to you and yours,
