Curtain Weight a Simple DIY

I am not by any means a DIYer, BUT I am so pleased with our solution to a problem that I just had to share.

We got new curtains in the den.  Previously we had a valance, but in an attempt to get a new (not necessarily better) fresher look, I wanted curtains.  Now the saga of the curtains is longer than it needs to be, and I will not bore you with every detail, but…  First I bought two panels at Ross Dress for Less that I loved, but they were too skimpy.  Do you think another Ross Dress for Less in this world had another pair of that exact curtain?  NO – not even the Ross Dress for Less in New York City.  Lord knows we tried.

Then we began searching for another set of curtains that we liked –  Bed Bath and Beyond, Anna’s Linens, JC Penny’s, Macy’s, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, HomeGoods, World Market, Pottery Barn, the internet, and others.  All the time I was thinking, this is ridiculous.  Honestly, we would find something we liked, and there were not enough panels, or the grey was too dark, or… anyway you name it they weren’t right.

Finally one day, HomeGoods got a new shipment of curtains, and there were four pair of the same pattern that worked.  Hallelujah!

The curtains that pleased were hung to my satisfaction, but…. every time the back door opened the curtain tried to fly out the door.  It was only a matter of time before new curtain was caught in the door.

Okay, I had heard of curtain weights.  We tried adding a washer, but that did not work – it fell out and really was not heavy enough.

I went to JoAnn’s, and the nice lady said this covered chain should do the trick.  Since the chain was fed through the hem of the curtain, I thought it might work.  Wrong!  This chain was basically useless.

Then I had an idea.  I had magnetic jewelry.  Yes, I added a magnetic rhinestone pin to the corner of the curtain.  It is so pretty and it works.  We even added a large nut between the pin and the backing for more weight.  Problem solved.  DSC_4262 copy

Pretty curtain no longer flies out the door, and I think I might have started a trend.  (Okay, that is going too far, but I do like it.)

Blessings to you and yours,

FYI:  At JoAnn’s you can go to their website and get 40% off one item each time you shop.  Hobby Lobby also has an app with a 40% off one regularly priced item.  Just sharing.
