This was pretty amazing. Hot Rod earned his yellow belt in Taekwondo. We were invited to the event, and of course I took Trusty Camera along.
On the upper lever of Promenade Shopping Center on Coit Road in Richardson is the ASL Jun Sur Martial Arts.
This school is a member of the World Taekwondo Federation, and flags in the gym proclaim that Taekwondo is an Olympic sport.
Hot Rod was ready.
Three older boys were also having belt exams on this day. There is a lot of bowing in Taekwondo. It appears that being respectful and learning discipline are important aspects of this sport.
Hot Rod went through his paces with just a few missteps. He had to demonstrate various forms, kicks, blocks, and self-defense moves.
The older boys showed their skills also. The Kendo sticks demonstration was awesome. They also engaged in sparring.
This was the big moment. Hot Rod was to break a board. This was his preparation.
WOW! He did it. Way to go Hot Rod.
The older boys kicked thicker boards and broke them. Unbelievable. How do they do that?
All the boys earned new belts. It was impressive, and we were proud.
Blessings to you and yours,
When I told Hot Rod how surprised I was that he broke the board, he replied, “I was too.” The motto of the school is, “Unleashing the Champion Within.” That must be what Hot Rod was feeling.
