Fish City Grill – Firewheel Town Center Garland

On a weekday afternoon, Ever-Lovin’ and I had been shopping, and found ourselves at the Firewheel Town Center in Garland.  We were hungry (it was almost 2:00 pm). As always, we wanted to try someplace different – Something with blog potential. (You, dear readers, are always on my mind.)

We spied Fish City Grill.  Okay.  That did sound like a place to check out, and am I glad we did.

From the beginning, the turquoise booths got my attention.  The atmosphere at Fish City Grill was fun and inviting.

Daily specials were on chalkboards around the restaurant.

Since we were first time customers, they offered us samples of the soups and the oyster nachos. (They will give you samples also.)  Be still my heart.  I can not wait to return and get the oyster nachos.  I liked them.  I loved them.  The soups were delicious.  There was gumbo, crab bisque, clam chowder, and roasted jalapeño soup.  All soups are “house-made”.  The roasted jalapeño was especially nice.

I ordered the shrimp and grits.  The grilled onions and bell peppers with bacon and cilantro topping was a flavorful touch.  The shrimp were delicious, but the cheesy grits were a little dry.  Despite this fact, I did like this dish.

Ever-Lovin’ ordered the Beer-Battered Fried Shrimp.  Yummy!  Be still my heart.  Virginia’s Apple Cider Vinegar Coleslaw was fantastic.  I kept wanting to eat his slaw.  Waffle fries were crispy but had a tender center.

Our experience at Fish City Grill was most pleasant.  Our waitress was super friendly and took excellent care of us.  She mentioned that on the First Tuesday of every month different charities have benefited from Fish City’s generosity.  A percentage of the profits for that night goes to the charity of the month.  It is their way of giving back to the community.  Over $350,000 has been given so far, and the number continues to grow every month.

Pretty waitress also mentioned that they had decorated the restaurant for Mardi Gras just the night before.

Fun times seem to be common at the Fish City Grill.

On their website, they also mention their “No Schmucks Policy” which first began as a joke, but now is part of their business plan.

This standard is known as our “No Schmucks Policy.”

Everyone that we deal with, from our General Managers to our dishwashers, from our fish vendors to our construction contractors to our franchisees all are great people. These are people that we are proud to be associated with and who are proud of their relationship with us. They are usually not the least expensive or the fastest but they are people who take great pride in their work, have strong morals and ethics and who always choose to do the right thing. We believe very firmly that if we want to be a company based on quality that we must begin with the quality of our relationships.

I like that!

Going back to Fish City Grill will certainly be on my list.  Good food, friendly people, and a restaurant that has a plan to help others.  That is the type of business I enjoy supporting.

Blessings to you and yours,

From what I understand, Fish City Grill is in the same family as Half Shells.  Now, I have been to Half Shells in Snider Plaza and loved it, so hearing this was good news to me.
