The Late Bloomer

While the paperwhites were reaching for the stars, and one amaryllis bulb displayed its crimson glory, there was another amaryllis bulb that did not bloom.

From the beginning, one amaryllis bulb was larger, and had a longer “neck” that displayed  a green stalk.

Oh, Little Bulb did have a hint of a stem.

While Big Bulb grew tall and exhibited a bud,  Little Bulb struggled.

During December, Big Bulb was beautiful and everyone commented on its beautiful Christmas bloom.  I didn’t even bother to take a picture of Little Bulb.  Honestly, it was assumed that it would never bloom.

Surprise, surprise.

Sweet Mother of Pearl.  Look what bloomed this week – Little Bulb.  It caught us by surprise.  To have a beautiful flower bloom during these dreary winter days is beyond wonderful.   It cheers my heart.

There has to be life lessons here concerning this late bloomer – overcoming struggles, succeeding by perseverance, accepting who you are, and knowing your time will eventually come to give joy to others.  I am so thankful I did not throw Little Bulb away.  (I thought about it, but it is hard for me to get rid of any living thing.)  What a blessing to have these beautiful winter blooms.

Blessings to you and yours,
