I love the blog Housepitality Designs. If you haven’t visited it, do check it out. Shirley posts beautiful pictures of her lovely home. Back in October, she posted a blog – Fall Tablescapes and Vignettes where she shared pictures of her previous fall displays. They were all gorgeous. There was one small display on a side chest that caught my eye – Shirley wrote about the pumpkin topiary in the picture, but what I noticed was the framed sheet music. Sitting on that chest was a copy of the song Bless this House. It grabbed my heart. I liked it. I loved it. I wanted one like it. I even wrote Shirley. She said she bought it at an antique fair, but maybe I could find a copy on Ebay.
Checking Ebay was an excellent suggestion. I even had choices, and I lost no time ordering me a copy of Bless This House. My copy is different than the one shared on Housepitality Designs, but I do love that the entire poem is on the front page.
This wonderful poem was written in 1927 by Englishwoman Helen Taylor. May H. Brahe from Australia wrote the music. If you are old enough, you might remember Perry Como singing Bless This House. I love the fact that blessings are implored specifically for each part of the house – walls, roof, chimney, door, windows, hearth, and then the folk who dwell within.
As soon as I received my copy of Bless This House, I headed straight to Hobby Lobby to get a frame. Luckily a simple pre-made black frame fit perfectly. I placed the framed sheet music on the buffet that functions as my entry table. The sentiments of these words speak to me. It is my prayer for our home. My favorite lines are at the end of the song.
Bless us all that we may be
Fit, O Lord to dwell with Thee
God’s grace and salvation are free, but I do pray that He will deem us “good and faithful servants.”
With Thanksgiving less than a week away, I do pray for God’s blessing on this house, and all who enter in.
Blessings to you and yours,
