Once a year Alpha Delta Kappa celebrates the founding of our organization with a Founders’ Day meeting. For this meeting we join with our sister chapter Fidelis Nu.
There was a proclamations from the mayor, and another proclamation from ??? (sorry!). It is always an honor to be recognized.
Alpha Delta Kappa is a honorary sorority for women educators. The women enjoy the friendship and support they receive from fellow sisters. Alpha Delta Kappa also supports various altruistic projects. Each month there is an altruistic project for our local community. (This month we brought canned meat to be donated to the Network (our local food bank).
There are also state projects that we support like the Fisher House. The Fisher House is similar to a Ronald McDonald House, but it is for military families needing a place to stay while their love ones are in a VA hospital. Our chapter will be doing more to support this charity in the near future.
One of the national programs we support is St. Jude’s Hospital. I love being part of a group that wants to give back to the community, our nation, and the world.
The World Understanding Initiative this year includes building a school in Peru. To focus our attention on this project, my friend and storyteller Minetta Smith (from the Beta chapter in Allen, Texas) was invited to share Peruvian folktales. What an enjoyable evening.
For years Minetta was a librarian in Allen, Texas. She is so cute and expressive, and it is a joy to hear her tell tales. Minetta is so talented! Thank you Minetta for sharing with us.
Of course, you can’t have a meeting without food. I love the Victorian Lace cake from Albertson’s at Buckingham and Jupiter Road in Richardson. The delicious white cake has a raspberry filling and cream cheese icing. It is wonderful! (and very reasonable) Some of the other Albertson’s grocery stores do not use the filling. This is a go-to birthday cake, and it is worth a drive to get it. It also comes in other sizes. Albertson’s does not know me. I am just sharing.
These two little ladies were just too cute. They are from our sister chapter Fidelis Nu. By the way, the cute lady on the left was wearing white boots.
Being associated with these ladies is a blessing. It was a good day.
Blessings to you and yours,
If you ever get a chance to hear Minetta tell stories, please do. You won’t be sorry!
