Senior Challenge

It sounded like something fun to do.  Senior Adults were to meet at the Activities Center of First Baptist Church Richardson for the “First Annual Senior Challenge”.

Senior Challenge

The Senior Challenge was a way to have fun and t0 be introduced to the programs offered at the Activities Center.

Senior Challenge

Senior Adults came to participate in seven different activities.  We chose the beanbag toss as our first event.  Just look at the action shot.  Wow!

Senior Challenge

If we ever take a cruise, we have now had shuffleboard experience.

Senior Challenge

This is not a pretty sight, but as Ever-Lovin’ said – I participated.  Granny shots were allowed, and I still did not make a basket.

Senior Challenge

Finally we were joined by a few other people.  Doesn’t Joyce look like a billiards player?

Senior Challenge

Rebekah and friends were having so much fun playing horseshoes.

But then they all – Rebekah, Donna, and Joyce – got serious, well sort of.

Senior Challenge

Joyce tried her hand at darts.  It was hard.

For our last activity, we walked a mile.  Yes, we actually walked sixteen laps around the gym – that equals one mile.  I think that is a very good place to walk.  The gym is air conditioned, and the walking is easy.

That evening we had (drumroll please) the awards ceremony.  Amber is the energetic director of the activities center, and she and her volunteers worked hard to plan and promote this challenge.  She introduced us to the various programs offered.  There is a Prime Time Fitness group, Line Dancing lessons, and even a Weight Watchers group that meets at the center.  PLUS – Amber is a certified personal trainer, and she is available to help anybody who wants to be happy and healthy.

This 86 year old “young man” should be the poster child for the Activities Center.  In February, he came to the gym.  He was on oxygen for his COPD and was on a walker.  He has lost weight, is no longer using oxygen, and no longer needs his walker.  Amazing.  Amber helped him develop an exercise plan.  Talk about results!

And the winners were:

These were the winners with their medals and trophies.  ( I was going to list the categories, but then I thought some might not appreciate me listing their age groups.)  I am here to tell you, everyone who joined in the fun was a winner because they got up and moved.

This year seventy people participated.  They are planning for this to be an annual event, and I for one am looking forward to next year.  No hopes for me of standing on the podium, but maybe if I join one of the programs offered, I will improve.

Blessings to you and yours,

Thank you Amber!  It was great.
