A new BBQ restaurant is in town – Ten 50 BBQ. For months we have watched as a site just north of Arapaho on Central Expressway (US 75) has been transformed into a BBQ restaurant. Finally it is open, and we went.
Cute kid in the parking lot found us a good parking space.
The entire look of this restaurant has great vibes. The metal shed on the side of the building is home to the BBQ pits and smokers.
There was a long line. I have a theory that BBQ joints have bragging rights about how long customers wait in their lines. Now, I do understand the Ten 50 has been open for only a week, and certainly there are kinks to work on, but…
Getting to see the smokers and grills is interesting. I think I heard that they have nine grills and smokers total. Ten 50 is the brainchild of Larry Lavine, founder of Chili’s. I think the founder of Spring Creek BBQ is also associated with Ten 50. They have done an excellent job of setting the mood and investing in equipment to produce excellent BBQ.
Customers were strongly encouraged to make their selections while waiting in line.
Meat is sliced when you order.
Then it is weighed and ticket stickers are placed on your paper lined tray.
Inside are your choice of sides – mac and cheese, BBQ beans, cole slaw, and potato salad. Homemade desserts are also offered.
The dining room makes you feel like you are in Central Texas. It is comfortable with fun and quirky decor.
Ever-Lovin’ said to be sure to take a picture of the pickup. Pretty amazing!
This pig hanging from the rafters made me laugh.
Be still my heart! My favorite display is the cowbell collection.
This was our sample plate. (They had sold out of ribs – bummer!) We were able to bring about 2/3 of this meal home, and we were eating well for several days. For a new restaurant that had been open only a week, I thought the meats and sides very good. The brisket was tender and juicy with a nice crust, but surprisingly it did not have much flavor. The mild Meyers sausages from Elgin was still a bit spicy (for me), but very good. (They also have a Jalapeño Sausage from Tyler) The chicken was moist and had good flavor throughout.
My favorite thing on the menu was the pickles. Sweet Mother of Pearl! They are so delicious. They are like a bread and butter dill pickle. Amazing!
Cole Slaw was vinegar based – I liked it. Mac and Cheese was tasty and had a hint of spice. The BBQ Beans were spicy, but oh so good. The Potato Salad was made with mayonnaise and red potatoes. Ever-Lovin’ loved it, and I liked it.
There are two sauces – the house sauce and a Memphis style vinegar based sauce. Both were very good but the vinegar based sauce was my favorite.
It is wonderful to have such a BBQ Restaurant in our neighborhood. Ten 50 is a good thing. I will be back!
Blessings to you and yours,
FYI: At this time Ten 50 is only opened for lunch beginning at 10:50, and when they have sold out, that is it for the day. In the future, they plan to be open for dinner also.
