There is a new restaurant in the neighborhood. Miss Jane told us about it on Sunday. We are always excited when new restaurants come to our area of town, and we are especially pleased when we like the food.
Taco Joint is the new taqueria in the Richardson Heights Shopping Center at Beltline and Central Expressway. It is the kind of taco joint where you order $3.00 tacos from the counter, BUT they also offer enchiladas, and more. While doing some back-to-school shopping a few days ago, we thought we would give Taco Joint a try. I liked it so much that I have introduced Ever-Lovin’ and friends to this mini-chain. (This is their third location.)
Here is the backstory I read online. In 2008, Taco Joint opened with the goal of recreating the tacos the owners had experienced while living in Austin. This was before other chains (Fuzzy’s, Torchy’s, Rusty Taco, and others) opened in Dallas.
From what I read, they are well known for their breakfast offerings. I do want to try their breakfast, and it is good to know that breakfast is served all day.
I am a fan of murals on the walls. There is so much details in the mural.
Patron’s pictures are displayed along one wall.
Willie’s portrait decorates the full service bar.
Taco Joint is much larger than I expected. In the back is a large room that could handle large parties. Cast pictures from the hit TV show Dallas are on the walls. There are also old album covers surrounding the rooms that made us laugh.
Dr. J’s Chips and Queso was good, but on my visit with Ever-Lovin’ we ordered THE DISASTER – queso, ground sirloin, and pico. This version of the queso is highly recommended! The chips are thin and crisp.
Their slogan describes the food as “Simply Tex-Mex, Simply Awesome”. This was a taco and a chalupa, and Mikel declared it delicious.
Hot Rod ordered the Bean and Cheese Burrito. It was huge, and he loved it.
The Quesadillas was my choice, and I might not ever order anything else. I liked it. I loved it. You can order this with or without meat. Carnivore that I am – I ordered meat. There is plenty of filling in these quesadillas, and it comes with sour cream, pico, and guacamole. When Ever-Lovin’ and I returned, I knew I should give something else a try, but….
We thought this sign too funny. I think they may have a point. The Cannonball is a breakfast quesadilla that does sound delicious.
I am so excited to have Taco Joint in the neighborhood. I would agree with their slogan – “Simply Tex-Mex, Simply Awesome”.
Blessings to you and yours,
Thank you Miss Jane for the recommendation. I knew if you liked it the food would be good!
