Niagara Falls is illuminated every evening. It is a sight to behold. This is not a something new. Since 1925 the Niagara Falls Illumination Board has been responsible for lighting the falls. Can you believe that – 1925? That was not the first time Niagara Falls was illuminated. As early as 1860 when the Prince of Wales visited Canada, the falls were illuminated. It is interesting to read the history of illuminating the falls. (Click HERE to read that history.)
Each evening from our hotel window, we could see the rainbow colors that illuminated the falls. Beautiful!
What a sight to behold. At times, Niagara Falls will be illuminated in special colors for special events or to honor specific charities.
This was a little creepy – a ghost rising from the Horseshoe Falls.
Then!!! At 10 o’clock, the fireworks began.
Be still my heart!
Fireworks start in May, and the shows continue through November each year. They are on Friday and Sunday nights beginning at 10 PM, but during the summer months, there are also displays on Wednesday nights. You can find schedules on-line because there are changes for holidays and other events.
I made sure we were back in our room each night before 10 PM. I certainly did not want us to miss the fireworks.
Getting to experience free shows over the falls was wonderful.
Not only can you view the illuminated falls and the fireworks from hotel rooms, restaurants, and the river banks, the Maid of the Mist tour boat also operates each night. Next time I will do that.
Blessings to you and yours,
