Steel City Pops is the new rave in Dallas, Texas. Down Lower Greenville way you will find popsicles for sale. Not just any popsicles – gourmet pops made from organic locally sourced (when available) ingredients.
My how this area of Lower Greenville has changed. Back in the day, I had an antique booth in an ancient building in this very block. Lower Greenville Antique Mall burned bad, but look what has risen from the ashes. The area is chic and pedestrian friendly.
Across the street is Trader Joe’s. This is a happening part of town, and I understand why Steel City Pops would chose this location as their first Texas location.
Steel City Pops began in Homewood, Alabama, and they have recently expanded to Texas. They have gotten a lot of press, and I was eager to see what all the fuss was about.
Tales have been written of the line being down the block, but on this Tuesday afternoon there was not much of a line. There was a steady stream of customers though.
The chalkboard menu board list the choices for the day. From what I understand, these change with the seasons or with available ingredients. I was going to get a fruity flavor, but I am so easily swayed. The man in front of me got the coffee and swooned (really) about how good it was – “I always get coffee,” he exclaimed. I got coffee. Yummy, yummy, yummy!
Notice some of the unusual flavors – pineapple jalapeño, hibiscus, buttermilk, chocolate chili, peanut butter. Each pop cost $3.00 with tax – not bad for a treat.
Ever-Lovin’ got the caramel, and it was also divine. The pops are smooth, creamy, and wonderful. You can eat at a few stools inside, or there are some benches on their patio.
Through the glass windows, you can view the pops being made in the open kitchen.
At the counter the pops are in a chest. You choose your flavor, and then the server cuts open the package for you. Pops can also be bought to take home. You can even have the pops catered for an event. That would be so much fun!
Sadly, in short time the cute popsicle sticks are all you have left. Well, I guess you do have sweet memories of eating a Steel City Pop.
Provid water is sold here. One-hundred percent of the profits from the sale of each bottle of this water goes to build clean water wells in India and Africa. That is a good thing.
I so want to go back and try other flavors.
Blessings to you and yours,
Steel City Pops does not know me. Just sharing.
I hear that there will be a Fort Worth location opening soon.
