Luck of the Irish

The Urban Dictionary has this to say about the phrase “Luck of the Irish”:

This isn’t luck at all, but more of an attitiude, a positive look at a bad situation.

The Irish didn’t survive a potato famine, and being treated as 3rd class citizens upon their arrival to the U.S. (til the mid-late 1900’s) by not having a positive outlook and a great sense of humor!

Mary-“I was just wearing my new shoes today when I stepped in a HUGE cow s***.

Michael-“Well then, tis a LUCKY thing you were wearing shoes!”

Mary-“Yea, Luck of the Irish”

Yes, life could always be worse.  Maybe that is why I enjoy thinking about St. Patrick’s Day.  It is about having a positive attitude and a sense of humor about life.

Since I bought the black pot for a “pot of gold” at the thrift store, I really wanted to do a St. Patrick’s Day table.  It was the 11th hour, but I was determine to make an effort.

I was worried about being able to afford enough gold coins for this bucket, but filling it with “grass” solved the problem.  The cost of these chocolate coins is highway robbery = $2.99 for a little bag at World Market.  I only used one bag.  I also later saw that people used Rolos and other golden candy.  I think I will do that next time.

I love to use plants from the nursery on my tables.  In this case, I bought shamrocks (One of my favorite plants).  I got both green and the dark purple shamrocks to use.  I also bought the little Penny Primrose because I thought they were so cute and almost had a shamrock shaped flower.  These plants will go in our flower beds when the weather gets a little warmer.

I know.  This is not a leprechaun.  Ever-Lovin’ says in it a gnome, but this was what I had, and he is adorable.

For the place settings, I used green placemats with woven straw mats.  On top of the placemats there are gold chargers, creamware Wedgwood plates, and a chintz salad plate that is trimmed in gold.

Basically I was going for the gold.  A gold beaded tassel is the napkin ring for the gold napkins.  I even found gold beaded coasters in the drawer.  If I would have had golden silverware, it would have been great.

The little slate Irish Blessing sits next to each plate.

That is my wish for you on this St. Patrick’s Day.

Blessings to you and yours,
