In 2010 – before Lanabird and Trusty Camera – The Living Stones and Albers Men’s Classes had an Oscar Party that was so much fun. The pictures are bad, but I thought some of you might enjoy a look back, and others might get a few party ideas.
Truman Capote made history with his fabulous Black and White Ball in 1966. With this inspiration, we planned our Oscar Party to be a Black and White party. Guest were encouraged to dress in black and/or white.
I always appreciated the fact that Ron really got into the spirit of the evening by wearing his tux.
All the guests helped make the party festive by wearing black and white.
Tables were set with black cloths, silver stars, and confetti.
Popcorn boxes held red carnations, and Oscar statues sat atop crystal bowls. Each table had a movie place card (Made by Number Three Son) to identify the table.
Napkins were folded to be the envelopes, and menu cards were placed inside the “envelope”.
This party could not have been possible without the help of my sons. Number Three son put together movie clips and created a Movie Trivia Game. It was so cool.
Number One Son was the computer master for the evening.
A “Snack Bar” was set up with plenty of candy and soda pop.
Another table supplied popcorn and those large dill pickles that are always at the snack bar.
The buffet line was filled with Ham with Spicy Cherry Sauce, Cheese Grits, Green Beans Almandine, and Dinner Rolls.
Yummy!
The two tables in the back of the room contained appetizers and desserts.
Appetizers were: Texas Caviar (Black-eyed Pea Dip), Baked Vidalia Onion Dip (I need to share that recipe with you.) Endive Boats,(Endive leaves filled with Feta Cheese, Cherry Tomatoes stuffed with Chicken Salad and Guacamole, and Chicken Salad Sandwiches.
Desserts had a black and white theme: Oreos, Angel Food Cake, Black and White Cupcakes, and Swan Cream Puffs filled with cream filling.
It was a party to remember.
Blessings to you and yours,
So many people helped with this party, and for that I am thankful
