There was a day when I resisted being called a “senior”. I remember one time at Furr’s Cafeteria where the cashier gave me the “senior discount”, but did not give Ever-Lovin’ the discount. Excuse me! It still riles me. But in the past few years, I have warmed up to the fact of the benefits of having an AARP card. I like “senior discounts”. Plus most of the “seniors” I know are active, interesting, and vibrant people (Even though we do have a few more aches and pains these days.)
Today was a day to be proud to be a “senior citizen.” Talent abounds among the ‘seniors” of First Baptist Church Richardson. What fun was had by all.
Dan served as the master of ceremonies. He had plenty of jokes to entertain us throughout the show.
The first act was the FBC Line Dancers. They exercise each week and shared a couple of their dances. This looks like a good way to exercise.
Wow! Joanne, Beth, and Linda looked the part as they sang Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Deane was on the piano, and Emily played the bugle. This was just like the Andrews Sisters!
Margaret can certainly play the piano. She entertained us with When You and I were Young Maggie Blues.
George and Joyce were so cute with their duet Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off.
I think it has been a bazillion years since I have seen a Hilly Billy Jug Band. This brought a smile to everyone’s face.
Amazing – Fran dazzled everyone with her Razzle Dazzle Tap Dance. I am here to tell you. My legs have never looked that good. Yes, she is a “senior”.
Dr. Ron is an inspiration to all retirees. When he retired, he decided to study the cello. He has been taking cello lessons for the last six months, and he practices about two hours a day. At the Senior Follies, he played two songs for us – America the Beautiful and a Bach piece. That is what retirement should be about – continuing to grow and learn.
For as long as I can remember, Jim has bee a favorite entertainer at FBCR. At one time he was our church organist. He medley of Frank Sinatra hits was enjoyed by all.
The Robert Kienlen Group is in demand in our community and beyond. They often entertain at churches and nursing homes. I would have liked to have heard them sing more songs.
It is a joy to hear Fred sing. His rendition of I’m Proud to be an American was a fitting close to the morning. I felt like I was in Branson.
Each month the Triple E’s (Excited, Energetic, Enthusiastic) of FBCR have a program. Everyone is invited. This was the first time we had attended their programs, but I think we will go back. Next month the bass singer of the Blackwood Brothers will be the entertainment. Sounds good to me.
Blessings to you and yours,
A big shout out to Linda M. She did a great job of putting this program together.
Being a “senior” is a good thing.
