“Well, look at that!”
Those were the first words I heard Ever-Lovin’ speak this morning.
“Well, look at that,” I replied.
And then I squealed. It was snowing. Small flakes of snow were beginning to dust the trees and bushes around our home. It wasn’t even sticking to the ground, but the sidewalk was a snowy path.
For me it was a snow day. It did not matter that the students and teachers had to attend school. (I assure you that in a second grade classroom, it is next to impossible to teach and learn when snowflakes are falling to the ground. Fuhgeddaboudit! That is the way life is. Brains can not function when frozen precipitation is falling.)
Snow Day – Two magical words. A day without any outside demands or expectations. On a snow day, life as we know it is cancelled. We spent the day wrapped in faux fur throws, drinking coffee and tea, while watching not-so-old movies. Life is good.
Eventually I got up to make a plate of cookies. It just seemed like a snowy day kind of thing to do. With it being February and Valentine’s Day is in February, heart shaped Granny’s Sugar Cookies seemed to be a logical choice. (That is my favorite heart shaped vintage cookie cutter. I love the scalloped edge it makes.)
About this time, larger flakes of snow began falling. The little statue of Dante certainly looked forlorn in the frozen barren garden.
St. Francis was tending to the birds.
By the afternoon, the “blankets” of snow were thicker. I didn’t want to disturb the snow by walking on it. How peaceful everything looks when covered by a clean white “carpet” of snow.
Puppy tracks – Maggie certainly did not tarry when going out.
The iron doormat’s intricate design was accented by the snow. Beautiful!
Cookies were baked, and a few cookies were iced. Ever-Lovin’ does not appreciate icing on his sugar cookies, but I love the pink powdered sugar glaze. Plain but pretty.
The weatherman called it a “light dusting” of snow. It wasn’t much, but for me it was enough for a wonderful snow day.
Blessings to you and yours,
When it snows everything looks so pure and white. Made me look up some Bible verses.
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
and a prayer –
Psalms 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
