Weatherford, Texas was on my list of “Places to Visit.” The main reason Weatherford was on the “Places to Visit” list was because it is the hometown of my dear sweet friend Jorene. Jorene and I have been friends since Sunbeams. We were baptized on the same day (She went first because I was a little scared.) She was also Miss Everything at Andrews High School. We were even college roommates, and in each others weddings. She is so Talented – yes, Talented with a capital T. I do not think there is anything she can not do. She does her own home improvement projects, she can sew, and she can play anything on the piano. She is even the church pianist. On top of all this and more – Jorene is smart, well read, and a good conversationalist. To make it even better, it is comfortable and fun being with her. Needless to say, we had a wonderful day in downtown Weatherford.
I am hear to tell you, Weatherford is worth a visit. I was there for breakfast before the stores opened, and by the time I had to head for home around 4:40, I still had not seen all of downtown Weatherford. (Hot Rod had his performance, and I did not want to miss it.) There are so many cute gift and antique shops. Some of the shops are opened only on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, so it might be good to plan your outing accordingly. I am going back to Weatherford – Soon!
The Parker County Courthouse is one of the prettiest courthouses I have ever seen. It sits in the middle of downtown on a hill. You can see it from far away.
On the Square in downtown Weatherford, is the Weatherford Downtown Cafe. This was our meeting place for breakfast. On their website I learned that this cafe is “Weatherford’s Oldest Restaurant.” It is open for breakfast and lunch. (until 3:00 P.M.)
Outside by the door, there is historical information about this building that has been here since 1900. I love how they have restored the building.
Parker Country is famous for peaches. Each July they have a Peach Festival. On the wall outside the building is a humongous mural by artist John Stout. He has several murals around town, and they are all well done.
Be still my heart. I do love cowboys on their horses. Inside are more John Stout murals. They are wonderful.
The decor in the cafe is pleasing to the men folks. I am sure the hunters love this moose trophy.
Bambi and friends grace another wall.
I loved the Weatherford historical photographs on the exposed brick wall. Such a good look.
The wagon wheel light fixture is perfect for this cafe. This is another John Stout mural. Fantastic!
It was hard to decide what to order. We choose omelets. But…
Later in the day, a lady at a shop on the square said she always orders the pancakes at the Weatherford Downtown Cafe. “They are so good.” Note to self: Try the pancakes next time.
On this morning, we opted for the omelets. Jorene was healthy and ordered the vegetable omelet. You can have hash brown, grits or tomatoes. We tried to be a little healthy and ordered tomatoes.
Sweet Mother of Pearl. Just look at this toast made from homemade bread. It doesn’t get any better than this.
The Bandito omelet had fajita meat and asparagus. It was good and huge. I couldn’t eat all of it.
I tried the biscuits and gravy, and they were both very good. I would order them again, but I do want to try their toast or pancakes.
People from near and far sing the praises of Weatherford Downtown Cafe, and it has won many awards. Texas Monthly listed it among the top 40 places to have breakfast in Texas. I would agree. I bet lunch is delicious also.
Blessings to you and yours,
Thank you Jorene for a fantastic beginning of our day together.
I will be sharing more from Weatherford in future posts. I liked it. I loved it. I am going back – Soon!
