It is strange how things work. I had not visited downtown McKinney, Texas for a long long time. Then within three days, I went to downtown McKinney three times. Yes, there were three seperate trips made.
Be warned. There are more posts about McKinney, Texas just waiting to be shared.
Here is how it happened. Remember the delicious sandwich I brought home to Ever-Lovin’ from Snug? (Snug is a little cafe on the square in downtown McKinney). It was a grilled turkey sandwich that was filled with roasted turkey, and smokey almond jack cheese. He really really liked that sandwich. I had mentioned to him that there were also good reviews for the breakfast at Snug. So, Saturday morning Ever-Lovin suggested we drive to McKinney and check out the Snug breakfast.
Other people also think Sung is a good place to dine on a Saturday morning. The line was long – sometimes out the door – and people were staking out tables. Snug is not a large cafe, and it was crowded. Thankfully, the line moved rather quickly.
While standing in line, there was ample opportunity to ogle the various items for sale. There are some cute scarfs, crosses, ceramic items, coffee mugs, t-shirts, jewelry, art work, and much more. Most of the items have a rather “hippy” vibe.
We also read all the signs on the tables. Ever-Lovin’ saw this one first. Love it!
We ordered an omelet, and a waffle with the intention of sharing. You customize your omelet adding as many ingredients from the list as you want. We ordered sausage, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, and cheese. Fantastic! It was fluffy, and down right good. The omelet also came with a green sauce that was wonderful. Sweet Mother of Pearl. See the toast in the background. It looks plain enough doesn’t it? Do not be fooled. It is called blueberry strudel toast, and I have never had anything like it. It was sweet (but not too sweet), filled with blueberries, and had a strudel crumb top. Toasting this bread made it extra yummy! The toast alone would be reason to return to Snug for breakfast.
The Belgian waffle had great flavor – rich and sweet, but it could have been a little crispier. I definitely would order it again, but next time I will ask for it to be crispy.
All of the staff at Snug are beyond nice. The cafe has a good atmosphere, and the food is worth the trip to McKinney.
Blessings to you and yours,
Looking forward to sharing more posts about the McKinney Farmers Market, Spoon (another restaurant), and the Sizzling Summer Theater Organ Concert that was held in the old courthouse courtroom. The courtroom has been transformed into a theater. So much fun in McKinney. Remember – Money Magazine named McKinney the second best place to live in the nation. Evidently, McKinney has plenty to brag about.
