Haystack – Burgers and Barley

Number One Son was excited that he had been someplace we had not gone.  He thought I should go.  Then my number one cheerleader Marsha asked if I had visited Haystack.  If I hadn’t gone, she thought I should.  Two recommendations for a new burger joint in my neighborhood.  We must check it out.

Yes, it is right in my neighborhood in The Richardson Heights Shopping at Beltline and Central Expressway (I 75) – next door to the new Alamo Cinema (scheduled to open August 9)  Also, TJ Maxx is nearby.

Ever-Lovin’ was ready for some good food.  I think the “barley” is a big thing, but since I don’t know about impressive drafts, I can’t comment about such.

Inside, the decor was what I might call industrial country. (We were there early, but the restaurant did start to get crowded before we left.)  It was cute, and the restaurant appeared to be very clean.  As you can tell, it is not a huge place, but there is also some seating on a small front patio.

Haystack Burgers was started by Richardson residents, who wanted a fast casual restaurant with amazing food.  These burgers appear to have personality, and it was hard to decide what to order.

The cloth dishcloth napkins were mentioned by both Number One Son and Marsha.  Sweet Mother of Pearl.  They are wonderful.  I can not tell you how much I like having a cloth napkin – especially a cloth napkin worthy of a Texas sized burger.  A big juicy burger needs more that a thin wimpy paper napkin.

Friend BB demonstrates the size of the “napkin”.  This is what you get.  You will love it.  It doesn’t slip off your lap, and you only need one.

The Ricardo’s Soon to be Famous Queso sounded interesting, so for the sake of bloggingdom, I ordered it.  This was the only disappointment of the night.  It was blah, and the chips were so-so.  Number One Son and his wife Mikel said the salsa was delicious.  I will try that next time.

This is Ever-Lovin’s Down on the Farm Burger.  It is basically a cheeseburger.  Look at  that big juicy burger.  Be sure to tell them how you want your burger cooked.  Medium is pink.

The cute young man at the counter mentioned that one basket of fries was enough to share.  He was right.  The fries were great, and they offer two types of ketchup – regular and chipotle.  My order was a Pitch Fork Chili Burger.  It had Porter chili, cheddar cheese and onions.  This is one big burger.

Friend BB got the El Tres.  Wow!  She loved it.  It was filled with cheddar, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, avocado, with a side of 3 pepper ranch.  Delicious.

It is exciting to have a new burger joint in the area with style.  All of the staff in the restaurant were extra friendly and helpful.  You order at the counter, but after we were seated, there was a waitress that helped us.  One older couple – who needed to sit down – ordered at the table.

I get the feeling that this area is trying for an “Austin vibe”.  Should be fun.  It is so great to have a new restaurant with individuality.  Do go if you get a chance.  I think you will like it.

Blessings to you and yours,
