For longer than I want to admit, several (seven to be exact – I am ashamed to tell) pictures had been sitting on the floor in the den waiting to be hung, or not hung as we so desired. Do you understand that sentence? Here is what happened.
I had a space in the den that needed a picture or pictures. (Pity that I would have a blank wall). I found one nice ship print. (Told you about it before.)
It was too small.
I found a dog on a bed. Loved it – bought it.
It didn’t seem to go in the den.
There was also an architectural picture of a bridge.
Maybe it would work with the dog (colors go together).
Wow! Another ship picture, and it is good and very reasonable! It might even be a painting.
Bought it too. Now I’m back to the ship idea. Still too small for the blank wall, but maybe something will work.
Another day I found a picture of a milkmaid with a cow and chickens.
Could this work?
While at the antique mall, ( I really wasn’t looking for pictures.) there was the print of a family with horses and a hay wagon. Bad day when your hay wagon breaks down. It is a wonderful vintage print with so much detail. Loved it, and it was such a bargain- bought it also.
(I know. I am sick, but it went with the milkmaid, and maybe I could make it work with another picture I already had.)
The last picture I bought was a vintage print of magnolias- beautiful frame and dirt cheap ($2.92).
All of these pictures were bought at thrift stores, consignment shops, and an antique mall and were very reasonable (I don’t think any of them cost over $20.00). Where else can you have four or more days of fun for around $75.00? Hear me! I got seven pictures and had four or more days of entertainment for around $75.00. It is cheaper than therapy. But, I know what you are thinking – “By this time, she could have bought a new piece of art.” Trust me – I looked and couldn’t find anything I liked. – Perhaps this is when I need a decorator to tell me what I want.
Added to this – We got four pieces of art from Nana’s estate. The featured image at the top of the page was Nana’s. She created this tile art piece using ground up glass from soda pop bottles of various colors. Amazing.
Dear Gussie! Do you get the picture? We had eleven pictures to hang. How were we to begin?
When I started to hang the pictures I froze. I wondered if we needed to reframe the pictures? I hated to put holes in the painted paneling. Did I really like them? YES, I like all these pictures, but … Just getting started was hard. Thankfully Ever-Lovin’ helped me, and with determination and courage we said, “Today is the day! Either hang ’em or give ’em to the church garage sale.”
We did it. Would you believe? Every picture is hung – even Nana’s. I think they look good. Ships together, peasants together, and dog and bridge together. It worked! They are still in their old frames, and some might need to be reframed someday. But for now, I’m a happy camper.
True confession! Okay, I have one more thing to hang. The mirror I bought for the upstairs bath didn’t work – too tall. It is so good looking – leather with buckles. This mirror could be in a Ralph Lauren showroom. Where will it go?? I think I have an idea.
Why do I tell you these things? You are my friends. Thank you for understanding.
PS: Don’t tell, but I have another blank wall.
Blessings to you and yours,
