Love this book, Then Sings My Soul by Robert J. Morgan. There are several others in the series. I bought this book for Mother. She liked it so much that she bought one for Aunt Lois. It tells the back-stories of great hymns. Good Reading!
I thought of this book a few weeks ago when BB asked everyone to come prepared to share her favorite hymn during our Bible Fellowship time. It was hard to pick just one, and our list reflects our age. Hymns of our faith sustain us and speak to us in good times and hard times.
After Mother died, I was deeply sad. Then one day the songs of my faith returned and began filling my mind. It was good to feel comforted and connected again. I hope you understand what I mean. Hymns carry deep messages that are imprinted on our mind.
This was from BB after our Bible Fellowship lesson.
Reading the “Christ Hymn” – written by an imprisoned Paul to the church at Philippi (Philippians 2:1-11) led into a meaningful discussion of how hymns affect our worship and lives. Each member shared her favorite hymn with the class and Pat wrote them down and included the date for each.
Here is that list:
Debbie – Heaven Came Down and Glory Filled My Soul (1921)
Evelyn – Just As I Am (1789)
Lana – Victory In Jesus (1885)
Sheila – In the Garden (1868)
Tonna – He Lives (1887)
Jane – I’ll Fly Away (American Spiritual)
Linda H. – Great Is Thy Faithfulness (1866)
Janet – It is Well With My Soul (1828)
Wynette – Amazing Grace (1790)
Judy D. – Swing Low Sweet Chariot (Southern Spiritual)
Francene – What a Friend We Have In Jesus (1819)
Beth – Great Is Thy Faithfulness (1866)
Pat – Make Me a Blessing (1880)
Makes me want to have an all-church sing.
We would love to know your favorite hymn and your story. Please leave comments below.
