Friend Marsha told me about another new restaurant in Eastside Village – that is the name of the development on the east side of Central Expressway (75) on Campbell Road. It is called Wicked Po’ Boys, and basically it serves Wicked Cajun food. We went to check it out, and liked it.
Now you need to know up-front that this place is small. Long and narrow. (Reminds me of a hole-in-the-wall in New Orleans.) The limited seating gives it a good feel, but don’t go there expecting to relax and visit for a spell. You order at the counter and get your own drinks. (A cute little waitress helped us with our drinks, and we did appreciate her help.)
Ever-Lovin’ and I wanted to try their soups since we are soup freaks.
My crab and corn bisque was excellent. I liked, I loved it, I want more of it!
Ever-Lovin’s gumbo was filled with goodness.
Friend Marsha raved about their fries so I made sure to order something that came with fries.
The shrimp basket filled the bill, and the shrimp were lightly breaded like I like. Friend Marsha was so right about their fries. Oh, so good. They are thicker than most places serve, and delicious. Order the house made red sauce with your shrimp. Yummy!
Ever-Lovin is not a big sandwich eater – too much bread for him – but the crawfish etouffee with fried crawfish only came on a po’ boy. It was very good, but he couldn’t get pass the fact it was a sandwich. Friend Marsha loved the bread and gave her shrimp po’ boy high marks. Even the flavorful chips are made in-house.
Highly recommended are the beignets. You get three to an order. When this hot sugared goodness came to our table, we started eating immediately. Then I remembered to take a picture. The Nutella drizzled on the top of the beignets was a nice touch. We almost had them leave off the Nutella, but am I ever glad we didn’t.
I do not know of many or any po’ boy places in the neighborhood, and this is a way for you to experience a little NOLA right here on the Eastside of Richardson.
Wish they would open early to serve beignets and coffee.
Blessings to you and yours,
