To say that there are Indiana Jones fans in our household would be an understatement.  A “Remember when?” story around holiday meals often brings to mind when the entire family waited in a line that stretched around the theater (even with pre-bought tickets) to see the first movie.

Number One Son and his wife even named their first-born (and only) son after the iconic hero.  Indiana Jones movie posters fill the walls of their den.  They even put an Indiana Jones ringtone on my phone.  So…  When the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History announced The Exhibition Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archeology, we had to go.  It was a no-brainer.

This was one Fort Worth museum that we had never visited.  On this day, we did not explore all of the museum, but there appears to be plenty of activities for the young and the old to enjoy.

It was Pretty Baby’s first outing to a museum. (We believe in starting them young.)  I am here to tell you that she had a splendid time.

 

I loved seeing the costumes.  Most of the time film clips were being shown of scenes where the costumes were worn.  There is so much detail in the costumes.  Click on each picture to enlarge the photo.

They even had the Harley motorcycle.  Too cool!  This was Mikel’s favorite.

Number One Son’s favorite part of the exhibit was the concept art.  He likes the behind the scenes information.  I did not get many pictures of what was involved in the planning of the movies, but it was interesting.

Sweet Mother of Pearl.  The props from the movies were fascinating.

There were chalices.

Then there was this replica of the Ark of the Covenant.

And there was a very nice replica of a mummy case.

BUT…  In the little side rooms, there were the amazing exhibits of artifacts.  I loved that they combined the facts with the fiction.

This case was titled, “What was valuable then and now.”  The shell necklace was once very valuable.  Now a large diamond ring is valuable.

Pictures of actual archeological digs were displayed along with some of the artifacts from those digs.  I enjoyed seeing these exhibits.

It was interesting to see gold jewelry from Ur – yes, the city of Abraham.  The large gold earrings were worn over the ear.

There were also interactive games and puzzles to solve, and everyone seemed to enjoy being an archeologist for the day. As I said, I think this exhibit has something for everyone to enjoy.

Do go if you can.  It is well worth the trip to Fort Worth.  The exhibit will be at the museum until August 10, 2014,  The tickets are timed, and you can buy them online.

Just want to give you a heads-up.  If you are a fan of Mythbusters, (like all the men in our family) a Mythbusters Exhibition is coming to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History (October 11, 2014 – January 4, 2015).  WOW!  That certainly got Hot Rod’s attention.  It is on our “Want to Do” list.
