You have probably heard of the Ronald McDonald Houses. Families of critically ill children are provided a home-away-from-home while while their children are receiving medical treatment. Okay, that is nice. No, it is wonderful! I am here to tell you that the Ronald McDonald House in Dallas, Texas is fantastic, and it is all made possible throughout the generous donations from the citizens of Dallas. Made me proud that so many people are so generous.
This beautiful facility was built 5 years ago, and it is modern and well decorated. (What else would you expect in Dallas?)
A group from the Living Stones Bible Study Fellowship volunteered to prepare lunch at the Ronald McDonald House. Of the 300 Ronald McDonald Houses in the nation, only 5 provide residents three meals a day – Dallas is one of the five. Various groups and businesses donate food and their time to cook and serve these meals. Several area restaurants regularly cater meals.
Ever-Lovin’ joined us. He was our chauffeur, and chief bottle washer. He also knows how to help make guacamole.
Providing the meals is a major undertaking, and it is amazing how well coordinated and seemingly effortlessly it works. Doug (kitchen coordinator) and Gracie (activities coordinator) are two of the people who make this happen. They are fun and make everyone feel welcome and appreciated.
For our lunchtime menu we decided that the weather dictated soup, and one of my favorite soups is Taco Soup. It is hearty, delicious and super easy to make. The taco soup was served with cornbread. It was so good!
Fresh guacamole was served with chips. Yummy. There wasn’t a bite left.
These girls were having too much fun making the Good Banana Pudding for dessert. It was a two handed job stirring that pudding.
They even made it purdy. This is another recipe that is super delicious and very easy to make.
Chips and hot sauce rounded out the rest of the menu and everyone was appreciative and thankful.
We were looking forward to the guests coming to eat. We were surprised that some of the children were out-patients, and so they also were staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
Seeing the children was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
How wonderful to know that these children are able to get treatment from some of the best children’s hospitals in the nation and that their families have a nice place to stay – and all meals are even included.
They were so precious.
This little girl was a live wire – A little princess.
This little boy is so little to be sick.
These children were so active and playful until I asked to take their picture. It was a good thing to see them laugh. Even with a foot missing, this little boy could scoot across the floor at lightening speed. Truly amazing.
Going to the Ronald McDonald House was a blessing, and we plan on returning.
Blessings to you and yours,
