Afrah – Mediterranean Cuisine & Grill

Company came to town, and we gave them choices of local places to eat.  Burgers, bar-b-que, Italian, Chinese, Mediterranean were all on the list, but when we mentioned Mediterranean – that was it!  They love Mediterranean food, and the thought of going to a Mediterranean restaurant that had been featured on the Food Channel sealed their choice.  Guy Fieri’s Diners Drive-ins and Dives featured this restaurant.  Afrah’s has also gotten rave review by The Dallas Morning News and others.   Afrah’s Mediterranean Grill is that good.

Afrah is a no frills place that serves Lebanese and Mediterranean food.  It is in a building that once housed Braums.  I hear they are building a new restaurant and there will also be a grocery store.

When we arrived we could not find a parking space.  We had to park in the lot behind the restaurant.   A full parking lot is a good sign.  Luckily we did not have to wait for a table, but the restaurant did fill up while we were there.

The staff and waiters have always been helpful and kind.  I like that.

It was so much fun eating with Olive, Shannon, Craig and Aubrey.  They were in the mood to try various dishes.  I wish we had gone for the lunch buffet where there are so many choices for a set price – I think it is $9.99.  First the stuffed grape leaves arrived.  I did not try these, but Shannon thought they were delicious.

I am a huge fan of their tabouli.  It is mostly parsley, and that is how I like it.

The falafel basket (You get six pieces.) is so very good.  Shannon declared it the best falafel she had ever eaten.  I would order this again.

Sweet Mother of Pearl.  I do love their freshly made Pita.

The Yogurt was rich but bland – it was yogurt.  It was not bad, but I probably would not order it again.

Then our meals began to arrive.  I told you we sampled the menu.  Everyone was raving about their delicious food.

One of Afrah’s claims to fame is their shawarma sandwich.  That is what was featured by Guy on the Diners Drive-Ins and Dives show.  Yummy!

Craig enjoyed the sujuk sandwich.  It was made with a filling of spicy beef sausage.

The chicken kabab (Shish Tawook) is my favorite.  You get two chicken kababs and two sides.  The chicken is moist and flavorful. I also love their hummus.  The garlic spread is strong – pure garlic.  I wish I had ask for a cucumber sauce.

Ever-Lovin’ likes the Gyro plate.  This is good!  The meat is moist and delicious.

Craig could not resist getting a cup of their homemade gelato.  Afrah is also a bakery with cookies, cakes, pies, and fantastic baklava for sale.

Let it be known that this gang left Afrah full and happy.  We enjoyed being together around a table of delicious food.  Life is good.

Blessings to you and yours,

Afrah is located at 314 E. Beltline Road in Richardson.
