One night before the retirement reception for Pastor Candy, Friend BB announced, “Don’t make me cut the cake!” Mrs. Ralph, joined in and proclaimed, “I can’t do it either.”
To be honest, I have been known to feel that cutting cake is the worst job at a reception. It is messy, and getting the slices uniform is next to impossible for yours truly.
BUT – that is not the case for our friend Excellent Cook Nancy. Her skills at cutting cake are widely known. I assured Friend BB and Mrs. Ralph that I was going to ask Excellent Cook Nancy to be in charge of cutting the cake.
When I asked Excellent Cook Nancy to cut the cake for the reception, she exclaimed, “Yes, I love to cut cake.” (I am proud to know her.)
Before the reception, Excellent Cook Nancy sent me a YouTube link about cutting cake with dental floss. Excellent Cook Nancy wanted to try this on our large flat full sheet cakes. She also saw this video about using fishing line, and she feels the heavier line would work better next time.
I regret not getting a picture of the girls cutting the cakes. Excellent Cook Nancy measured and marked each side of the cake beginning at the same end. She then had marks to guide the dental floss. Having the slices perfectly cut made the job of serving the cake much easier.
See how uniform the slices are. With a cake this large the dental floss was a little light to cut to the bottom of the cake in the middle. The edges were great. With smaller cakes, maybe the dental floss would work, but it is probably best to use fishing line.
Thank you Excellent Cook Nancy and helpers for cutting the cake in perfect slices. I think my dear readers can use this in the future.
Blessings to you and yours,
