Buckner – Sharing Shoes Around the World and at Home

An additional blessing of volunteering at Buckner is meeting volunteers from other churches.  It is fun and rewarding to sort shoes and hear the stories of how these shoes impact lives around the world, but it is an added bonus to hear the stories other groups have to share.

On this day, a group of students and adults from Aldersgate Methodist Church in Carrollton came to Buckner to sort shoes and  prepare Christmas bags of shoes for families in the Buckner neighborhood.

The children of Aldersgate Methodist Church have had shoe drives for Buckner for the past thirteen years.  The first year they collected thirty pairs of shoes and thought it wonderful.  This year they collected two hundred eighty pairs of shoes.  It was a joy to meet them, and to hear how they love partnering with Buckner.  Their leader told me that when her youngest son is out of college she plans to participate in one of Buckner’s mission trips to deliver shoes.  I do think that a trip like that would be wonderful.

Buckner not only provides shoes around the world (They have taken shoes to 76 countries.), but they also serve their Dallas neighborhood.  These red bags were filled with shoes for local families.  Each application lists the gender and shoe sizes for each person on the list.

Then the bags were filled with their request.  It was fun to see the young people picking out shoes for these children.

While the group from Aldersgate were filling the red bags, the Living Stones and Mens Bible Fellowship Classes were busy sorting shoes.

No matter how many shoes we prepare there are always more bins to empty.

Happy Birthday Ann!  Ann even came to volunteer on her birthday.  We celebrated her birthday with coconut cream pie at the Circle Grill.  Yummy!  Life is good!

Blessings to you and yours,

I can not wait to share part 2 of this blog with you.  After lunch, Neal Knighton from Buckner gave our group a tour of the Buckner campus.  Stay tuned!
