People who know and have experienced the Village Baking Company speak in awe of their breads. I had heard of this bakery, but had no idea where it was. When MarshaChristmas asked if it would be okay to stop by the Village Baking Company after lunch, I was beyond excited. This artisan bakery has been on my “Want to Do” list. Am I ever glad she knew where we were going because I seriously doubt I would have found it on my own. The address is 5531 East University Boulevard, Dallas, Texas.
About a block west of Greenville Avenue on East University you will see the little sign. Turn right through the gate of the iron fence, and you are there.
“Boulangerie” reads the sign over the window. I believe that means it is a fancy French bakery. Just seeing the bread in the window reminded me of a European bakery.
Sweet Mother of Pearl! The aroma is divine. Nothing smells better than freshly baked bread. Suddenly, I wanted one of everything.
Le Pain – the breads. This is not the soft crustless Wonder Bread. These loaves are crusty and chewy. Village Baking Company supplies bread to many of the top restaurants in town, and they also sell bread at many of the local Farmers Markets. Due to their popular following, they decided to open the storefront so that customers could obtain the pain during the week. As a first time shopper, I was clueless about the different types of bread, but the steady stream of patrons on this Friday afternoon, knew their breads and could order quickly.
Look at these gorgeous loaves of bread with the stenciled sunflowers.
The crusty baguettes standing watch in the window were unusual. They resemble tree branches and were made so that each person could break off a piece.
The Meyer Lemon Rosemary bread was my choice for the day. The loaf reminded me of a crown, and the sweet and patient lady mentioned that it was her favorite. These breads are intended to be eaten as soon as possible, but they can be frozen.
Patisserie – flaky, buttery and delicious. Many, many years ago when we visited France, each morning Ever-Lovin’ would walk down to a small local bakery for pastries and a bottle of milk for our breakfast. (At that time, we were not coffee drinkers.) The pastries at Village Baking Company remind me of those treats.
This quaint bakery offers so many choices. Special orders are encouraged.
I am so thankful to know the location of the Village Baking Company, and I am already planning an early morning outing for a French breakfast.
Blessings to you and yours,
