Number Two Son’s sweet wife Jenny told us about Fuel City Tacos sometime ago. It seems that regularly someone from the hospital will make a “taco run” to Fuel City for their famous tacos, and she proclaimed them, “very good.”
More than once we missed the exit to get to this fueling station/taco stand. Oh, we could see it from I35, but we were past the exit. On this day, Ever-Lovin’ and I had it figured out. Right after we crossed over the beautiful new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, we exited on Riverfront, and there we were with a bazillion other people who needed gas, were getting their car or trucks washed, or most importantly liked tacos.
This is NOT a restaurant. There is no inside dining. You walk up to the window and order your tacos. They only accept cash, but there is an ATM inside. Then you stand around for a short wait for your tacos.
Customers were in a fun and playful mood. They knew they were going be eating some very tasty tacos.
There is a patio area where you can sit on benches and eat your tacos. I do not recommend trying to eat Fuel City Tacos in your car. I do believe that would be a recipe for disaster.
When you sit on the patio, you have one of the best view of downtown Dallas. Amazing!
While waiting for our tacos, I took a few more pictures. This statue is pretty impressive. There are more statues inside and even some mounted animals. (Yes, it was a little like a natural science museum.) Strange but true!
You buy your drinks inside the fueling station. There is also another window for ordering tacos inside the building.
These were our tacos – fajita/onion and sausage/egg. The tacos are tiny. That container is a sandwich container. We needed to buy more than one taco each. That was the only downside to these tacos. I could have eater at least one more. They were delicious. (You can order corn or flour tortillas.) D Magazine proclaims eating tacos at Fuel City is something every Dallasite should do and calls them the “holy grail” of tacos. Fuel City Tacos do have a reputation. I so wish we had ordered more tacos. I will just have to go back.
On the sidewalk in front of Fuel City was this cart. The nice lady was selling corn. I was curious. Then I watched a man order the corn. She put crisp kernels of corn in a cup. Then she added sour cream, Mexican crema, hot sauce, and a crumbly cheese. Then she added another layer of the same ingredients. Okay. Breakfast tacos were a little skimpy. I decided to go for some corn.
Sweet Mother of Pearl. I liked it. I loved it. Highly recommended! It is rather spicy, so let her know how spicy you want it.
This was a fantastic way to begin our road trip. We hadn’t even driven out of Dallas, and I had something to share with you. I do like the T-shirt.
Blessings to you and yours,
By the Way: Fuel City Tacos is open 24 hours a day.
