Number One Son suggested a new restaurant to try called Pollo Tropical. Since it was a new restaurant, it had been getting reviews in the press.
Be still my heart! The cool sea breeze blue walls with white trim certainly reminded me of the tropics. How wonderful to drive up to something so pretty. I liked it. I loved it.
We had to take number outside due to the crowds. It wasn’t a long wait, but that is certainly different for a fast food restaurant. Inside there were more tropical colors – so refreshing.
Okay. I am not really sure this could or should be called a fast food restaurant. It has a drive through like a fast food joint, but it also serves grilled citrus chicken, fried yuca, plantains, and tostones – not your typical fast food.
Pollo Tropical’s website explains this information about their restaurant:
What began in Miami as a simple recipe for citrus-marinated grilled chicken has evolved into a world of tropical flavors, and is quickly transforming into a lifestyle of happy, healthy, laid-back fun. And is continually proving that life’s better under the palm. Welcome to Pollo Tropical® where passion is married to freshness to create a one-of-a-kind experience. Our chickens are free of hormones and trans-fats. From our signature grilled chicken and slow roasted mojo pork, to world-renown Create Your Own TropiChops®, nothing surprises and delights like our fresh-made food served in a Caribbean inspired atmosphere.
Chicken was grilling on large grills next to the ordering line. The aroma made my mouth water.
The Grilled Chicken was moist and very tasty. On the platters you can choose two sides. The corn soufflé was highly recommended, and it was delicious. The balsamic sauce on the tomatoes was thin, and Ever-Lovin’ wished it had been thicker with more flavor.
Number One Son’s Calypso Beef was great.. The rolls are kin to Hawaiian rolls – okay, but… For some reason, the rice and beans count as one side. You get a choice of two types of rice and beans.
Mikel enjoyed the Mojo Roast Pork. All of these dishes have a Caribbean/Latin influence.
Hot Rod ordered the Mac and Cheese. He loved it! He even commented that you could tell it didn’t come out of a box.
The sauces certainly are worth of mentioning. All of the sauces were good. The pineapple rum sauce was a favorite. The same people who own Taco Cabana own Pollo Tropical, so they know something about offering delicious sauces.
Pictured here is the garlic sauce, the mango rum sauce, and the guava bbq. Doesn’t sound like fast food does it?
In warmer weather it would be fun to sit out on the patio next to the palms.
We look forward to returning to Pollo Tropical. It is good to have a fast food restaurant with a different menu.
Blessings to ou and yours,
