Anytime I get to have lunch with Carolyn and Minetta I consider it a treat. Our lunch destination on this day was downtown Plano – Jorg’s Cafe Vienna.
Jorg’s is a family run cafe that brings a little of Austrian cuisine to the neighborhood. It is also considered a beer garden, but I wouldn’t know about that.
Inside the small restaurant, the decor reminds me of restaurants we visited in Germany – Old World decor with plenty of steins and banners.
Minetta ordered a pretzel and shared. Sweet Mother of Pearl. It was served with a cheese spread and was fantastic. Highly recommended.
Carolyn and Minetta both ordered schnitzel but with different sauces. Carolyn proclaimed her schnitzel with mushroom sauce excellent.
Minetta wished her schnitzel with a lemon caper sauce would have had a stronger lemon taste. They both loved the braised red cabbage and the Austrian spatzle that was served with their meal.
The Austrian-Hungarian goulash I ordered was very tasty, but… I thought it needed more vegetables instead of so much broth.
The Vienna Kase Kreiner Wurst (Smoked Bratwurst with Swiss Cheese) was recommend by the waiter, and he was right. It was delicious. I think they call the mustard Dusseldorf Mustard. All I know is that it is wonderful – flavorful and not too spicy.
We passed on dessert, but reviews online rave about their apple strudel with a vanilla rum sauce and other desserts – maybe next time.
If you like Austrian/German cuisine, Jorg’s Cafe Austrian is recommended. Getting to go with good friends makes it even better.
Blessings to you and yours,
