Just sharing.
While walking the aisle at Kroger, I noticed a small canister on a top shelf that read: “Private Selection Buttermilk Oatmeal Pancake Mix.” “Private Selection” translated = Kroger’s top-of-the-line store brand. Oatmeal pancakes did sound good to me, but…. I wasn’t sure, so I did not buy. I did not even take the package off the shelf. But, I did keep thinking about the oatmeal pancakes and wondered. I had heard raves about oatmeal pancakes from several sources, and thought – “Those just might be good.”
Fast forward to the next week. (To be honest, I had been thinking about this oatmeal pancake mix all week long.) I made a point to look for the mix. There it sat on the top shelf, and the subtitle claimed it was a “100% whole grain artisan recipe”.
Could this possible be good? I decided to take said carton off the shelf. Then I noticed. This “artisan pancake mix” was on sale – $1.00 off to be exact. To my mind, that was the sign to buy this Buttermilk Oatmeal Pancake Mix. Into the cart it did go. To the home it did go, and in the cupboard it did rest. (We do not eat pancakes often.) Then one Saturday morning I decided it was a special day, and I would make pancakes.
On the back of the carton it reads: “Our Private Selection Oatmeal Pancake Mix is the perfect blend of rolled oats, buttermilk, and our amazingly light whole wheat flour from a century old flour mill, high in the Rocky Mountains. You’ll swoon over the melt-in-your-mouth goodness.”
Wow! That caught my attention. Whole wheat flour from an 100 year old flour mill high in the Rocky Mountains does not seem like something I would find in a Kroger brand. But…. Maybe Kroger is trying to upgrade.
Sweet Mother of Pearl. After just a couple of bites, Ever-Lovin’ and I were swooning and decided that the buttermilk oatmeal pancakes were blog worthy. They are light – surprised me. The taste is hearty, but not overpowering. For pancakes, I feel that I am eating healthy. But the bottom line is – They are delicious! (In this picture, the pancakes look a little over browned. You can do better. But these did not taste burnt.) A few berries over the top of the pancakes was a nice touch – if I must say so myself. Yummy!
I wanted to share this find with you. If you try them and do not like them, it is okay. We can still be friends.
Blessings to you and yours,
Of course – Kroger has no idea who I am – just sharing.
They also have a Buttermilk Apple-Cinnamon Oatmeal Pancake Mix that I think I will try.
