A few of the middle school children who are associated with Mercy Street in West Dallas went above and beyond this summer. Theu participated in a book study and earned a day and an evening of fun in Big D.
For starters, these 9 students were treated to a limo ride through downtown Dallas. It was not a plain stuffy limo. It was a Hummer limo, and the students were so excited to be on their journey in a cool limo such as this. I would have been excited also.
Just look at the inside of this limo – lights and sounds delighted the super readers.
They had scheduled a time to buy snow cones, but when they got to the snow cone stand, it was closed. Now I do not have a picture, but use your imagination. Plan B: They drove through the McDonald’s drive-thru in the Hummer limousine to buy ice cream cones. I do wish I could have been there for all that fun.
Friend BB joined us in providing supper for these achievers. The Activities Building and Gym of Park Cities Baptist Church was the location of their final stop.
Be still my heart. I do love the entrance to the Activities Building with the iron work. What a beautiful church.
To our surprise, there was a group of single adults waiting to help us. They were so helpful, and were great at interacting with the kids. Wow!
Decorations were simple – poppies in terra-cotta pots, and star balloons.
The silk flowers were bright and colorful. We needed to keep things simple because we had less than 15 minutes to set up before the children arrived.
When the girls saw us, they squealed for joy, and we were delighted. It was wonderful for them to be so happy to see us. I am here to tell you. It made my day.
Pizza and hot wings were on the menu for this party. Jill assured us this would be a favorite. Jill (their fantastic leader) knows best!
Diamond had the right idea. Life is short. Eat dessert first. The chocolate sheet cake was a hit.
What a joy it is to see these young ladies’ smiling faces. They should be so proud of themselves for making the effort to read (and answer questions) this summer.
Jill was right. They did love the pizza.
There were boys that accomplished their goals this summer also. Way to go!
After supper, the fun began. They played basketball in the gym.
Video games were also a hit.
It was great fun watching them play games. They were having such a wonderful time, and they deserved it.
Party favors were 7/11 gift cards. (We heard West Dallas had a new 7/11 store.) So proud of the students for putting forth the effort to keep reading this summer.
Blessings to you and yours,
