Rudolph’s Meat Market

Okay, here is what I like to do.  Go to the Dallas Farmers Market, and then on our way home, swing by Deep Ellum.

Rudoph's Meat Market

At 2924 Elm is the most wonderful meat market.  Rudolph’s Meat Market has been selling meat to Dallasites since 1895.  Yes, they have been in business 117 years.  This historic meat market in Deep Ellum is a full service butcher shop.  You tell them what you want and how you want it cut, and they will do it.

Rudolph's Butchers

The friendly butchers cut meat to order.  I feel so welcome at Rudolph’s.  You might think they would just cater to the Ritzy types, but they have always been willing to answer questions and give us good service.  They treat us like friends – but in reality – they don’t know us.  One day when we were shopping at Rudolph’s, the butcher overheard me saying to Ever-Lovin’ that I would love to cook a roast, but it is a problem cooking a large roast for just the two of us.  The butcher said , “No, no, no.  You can have roast.  I will cut you a little one.”  And he did.  The little roast was just perfect for two meals (we did want some left-overs), and it was delicious. We get high quality meats at Rudolph’s.

Just look at the giant butcher blocks in the background.  I think they are so purdy.

Rudolph's with sausage

Rudolph’s is also a sausage factory.  Yes, they make their own sausages and hot dogs.  The old fashioned hot dogs are a real treat, and you can buy skinny or fat versions.  Many other types of house-made sausages are offered for sale.  All of the sausages we have tried have been delicious.  I think some high-end restaurants buy Rudolph’s meats and sausages.  I can understand why.

From what I read, Rudolph’s also slow-cures hams and turkeys over hickory.  Maybe a smoked Thanksgiving turkey would be good.

I know why Rudolph’s has been in business for 117 years.  They sell quality products and give quality service.

Oh, by the way!

mozzarella company

If you walk to the end of the block (2944 Elm), you can buy wonderful cheese at the Mozzarella Company.  Big name chefs from all over the country have been buying and using Paula Lambert’s mozzarella cheese for over 30 years.  Paula once lived in Italy, and when she returned to the states, she could not find mozzarella cheese to her liking.  She decided to make her own mozzarella cheese, and the rest is history.  They also make other types of cheeses – both plain and flavored.  If you want to learn how to make cheese, this is where to go.  They offer classes, and for $75.00 you can be a cheese maker.

The fresh mozzarella is wonderful with summer tomatoes or on homemade pizza.  So good!

Shopping on Elm Street – a good thing.

Blessings to you and yours,

Words from experience.  Do not try to go to Rudolph’s on a Monday.  They are closed, and you will be heart sick if you try to go on a Monday.  Both Mozzarella Company and Rudolph’s are closed on Sundays, and both businesses close at 3:00 PM on Saturdays.

Thank you for reading Lanabird.  I do not want this to be a bog of whinning and complaining, but….  There have recently been technical problems.  It is beyond frustrating.  I do not know what is going on, but my sons are trying to help.  On most days, you can go to Lanabird.com and the post will be there.  Praying it will get better soon.  I like getting together with you.
