Pecan Lodge cooks up some of the best barbecue in Texas in the WORLD – Pecan Lodge is wildly acknowledged as serving the best barbecue in North Texas. That is what I heard and read.
Texas Monthly lists Pecan Lodge as one of the top 4 barbecue joints in Texas in their ratings of the state’s WORLDS 50 Best Barbecue Joints. Franklin Barbecue in Austin claimed the number one rating while Snow’s in Lexington, Texas (population 1,200), and Louie Meuller’s in Taylor also take top billing.
On a recent visit to the Dallas Farmers Market, we thought we would have lunch at Pecan Lodge. Yes, we had heard there would be a wait, but as we entered Shed 2, we were not prepared for what we found.
At the entrance to shed 2 is Pecan Lodge. They do not open until 11 AM.
We looked down the aisle, and noticed the line. Okay, we had heard there would be a line.
We began walking to the “end of the line”. Says I to myself. “This is getting serious. People know to bring camping chairs for the wait in line. Oh, no!”
And the line did not end. It appeared to go on and on into infinity and beyond. We stood in line for a while. Then the kindly security guard told Ever-Lovin’ that from our point on the number line, we would probably have over a 2 1/2 hour wait. Sweet Mother of Pearl. Is any barbecue that good??? A lot of people think so. We decided to return on a weekday. Yes, we are wimps.
On a Wednesday, we entered shed 2 again.
Again there was a line, and people had camping chairs. Unbelievable.
Okay, this is not as bad. But. truth be known – After Pecan Lodge opened, it was still one hour and fifteen minutes until we were served. I do believe it is a badge of pride to report wait times to fellow pit masters.
Peter who was in line in front of us became our new best friend. His wife was out of town, and he was doing what he wanted to do. He got a two meat plate – brisket and ribs with the mac & cheese (I hear that the mac & cheese is beyond delicious. – I wanted some, but….)
Victory – We had beef brisket and one sausage link to take home. The smell was divine. I could not wait. I had to open the container at the car to have a taste, and then I wanted another taste, but I will power prevailed, and I waited.
Be still my heart. This is pure goodness in an aluminum pan. The brisket was juicy with a wonderful peppery crust. It literally fell apart as we tried to serve it. I liked it. I loved it. And we still have left-overs for another day. Life is good.
Blessings to you and yours,
Pecan Lodge is open Wednesday – Sunday from 11 AM to 3 PM (or until they sell out)
Award Winning Barbecue is served at Pecan Lodge, and you will not be sorry you had to wait.
