The Boiling Crab

I tell you.  Life is good.  Number Two Son’s precious wife Jenny knew of a seafood place called The Boiling Crab that Lanabird needed to know about.  She just knew I would love it, and I did.

You have heard the term “hole-in-the-wall”?  I do believe The Boiling Crab would qualify.  It is located in a one block strip shopping center at the intersection of Plano Road and Walnut Street in Garland.  From what I hear, we lucked out.  The threat of storms seemed to keep the crowds away, and we did not have to wait an hour.

Inside we were greeted with graffiti covered beams and post.

See the roll of white paper.  That is what is used to cover the tables.

The Boiling Crab began down on the Texas coast when a group of fishermen had seafood boils on the weekends after a hard week’s work.  Their friends loved the food and fellowship.  That is what The Boiling Crab strives to do – have fresh delicious seafood for people to eat while enjoying visiting together.

“Git’ DOWN n’ DIRTY” are the words at the top of the menu.  When they issue you a bib as you are led to your table, you had better be ready to “Git Dirty.”  Trust me.  You will understand why bibs are supplied.

Many many people ordered the crawfish.  At the table next to ours, two people finished off this pile of crawfish.  They were happy.

We ordered Cajun fries.  Wow!  They were great.  Crisp and crunchy on the outside with Cajun seasonings, and soft on the inside.  You can order the fries as spicy as you like.

The food and sauce were served  in a plastic bag.  No dishes or utensils to wash at this establishment.  You can also add corn and boiled potatoes if you like.  Then you start “Git’ Down n’ Dirty”.  About the sauces – You have your choice of four sauces.  There is the original Rajun Cajun, a Lemon Pepper, and a Garlic Spread.  Or you can have “The Whole She-Bang (all of the above)”, and you decide how spicy you want the sauce to be = non spicy (plain and simple), mild (just a kick), med – (it’s getting HOT in here), XXX (I can’t feel my mouth).  What a deal.

As expected, the jumbo shrimp came with heads and tails intact.  Be prepared to look the shrimp in the eye before shucking and eating it.  When you taste this deliciousness, you won’t mind shucking the shrimp.  You will be thanking the heavens above for creating something so wonderful.

I thought I would try their gumbo.  You can order it with or without rice.  The roux was not as thick as in most of the gumbo I have eaten, but it had plenty shrimp and sausage along with some okra.  It was good.

I wanted to try something different, and I ordered snow crab legs.  I worked for my dinner, and it was worth it.  Both Jenny and I ordered The Whole Sha-bang Sauce – good choice.    The corn soaked in the lemon garlicky sauce was yummy!  I liked it.  I loved it.  You must order the corn.

There are fried foods on the menu – catfish, shrimp, calamari, chicken tenders and Cajun wings.

FYI:  Blue Crab, Dungeness Crab, King Crab Legs, Snow Crab Legs, Shrimp, Clams, and Crawfish are available with any of the sauces.

Raw Oysters are also on the menu.

At the end of our meal, both Jenny and I had our fair share of discarded shells.

And dirty hands.

Blessings to you and yours,

The Boiling Crab is open Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  On Saturday and Sunday they are open from 12 noon to 10:00 p.m.  From what I hear, it is BUSY.  I understand why.

Thank you Jenny for introducing me to The Boiling Crab.  It is good!
