Buckner’s Shoes for Orphan Souls is gearing up for five large shipments in the near future. There is a lot of work to be done.
Our group from First Baptist Church Richardson recently went again for our monthly morning of volunteering.
These dear people volunteer each week.
They tried to educate us on the various categoryies of shoes to be sorted. (Alex said not to worry, these ladies and gentlemen would correct our mistakes.)
(Sorry I do not know names. -but they are fun to work with.) Note to self: Learn these dear peoples names.
This is Gloria. I know her name because she is the authority on types of shoes. On this day we were working on non-leather casual shoes.
We began with two full pallets of shoes.
And we sorted through all those shoes.
Then we were given more shoes to sort. You can tell there is a urgency about sorting enough shoes for the five large shipments that will be sent out this spring.
Again the notes from children were precious. Makaya is from a “very spiritual church”. Made us laugh.
Some drew pictures. I like it. I love it.
The note from Elizbath made us laugh. “Dear children, I have spent 4 hours sorting shoes for you and your community. i(sic) hope you appriciate (sic) our doing! God loves you and has a plan! Elizbath” From all the reports we hear. The shoes are very appreciated.
Then there was this note. I was appalled. How could anyone write such a thing?
It was not real. We had an impostor among us. He got me real good.
Mug shot of the Mister. And to think he even said the note came from Andrews, Texas.
The Mrs. made up for the Mister’s transgressions. She brought cookies made from a Ghirardelli Carmel Brownie Mix. They were delicious. She says the recipe is on the box.
If you are interested, here are ways you can help the Shoes for Orphan Souls missions.
Now that’s a great birthday gift!
As always, it is a blessing to get to volunteer at Buckner. We enjoy each others fellowship and work so that God may be glorified.
Blessings to you and yours,
I mentioned to Steve (a worker at Buckner) how I didn’t like one pair of shoes. They were flimsy and ugly. Steve looked at me and shook his head. “You do not realize how happy someone will be to get those shoes,” he said. It was then I realized how great the need is for shoes.
