Jane and John heard of a new restaurant. Imagine this. They are eating at Red Hot and Blue. The waiter recommends Nazca Kitchen, another restaurant in the same shopping center. He even gives them a menu from Nazca Kitchen to take home. Wierd. (Fact is, the Red Hot and Blue owners also own the Nazca Kitchen.) http://www.nazcakitchen.com/locate/
For an adventure, we went with Jane and John to Nazca Kitchen for Sunday lunch. On the front of the menu it reads: “A Fresh Take on South American Cuisine in a New Kind of Dining Experience.” What that means, I do not really know, but the food was very good and made from fresh ingredients.
This was so interesting. Outside the restaurant in the flower beds they were growing lettuce. It made for a very interesting border.
Inside the decor was modern, fresh, and pretty. None of my pictures adequately show the decor of this restaurant.
For a starter, we ordered the Roasted Pepper – Cheddar Dip with Pita Chips. All I can say is that Jane and Ever-Lovin’ kindly shared the last bit of this dip. (John and I had already had our fair share.) It was that good. Think queso with some veggies. It was not spicy hot.
This is the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich (sautéed peppers, queso blanco, bacon, lettuce, tomato, aioli drizzle and criolla served on Amazon crunch bun). First, it was not spicy hot, but it did have good flavor. The criolla is another name for pickled onions, and the Amazon crunch bun means the bun was toasted. For a side, I ordered the Butternut Squash. Sweet Mother of Pearl. Fantastic!. It was just slightly sweet with red onions, cranberries and almonds sautéed with the butternut squash. The reason I ordered this was because the awesome waitress brought us a sample, and it was so delicious I wanted more.
This was Jane’s Chile Jam Chicken Wrap – another winner. It was made with grilled chicken, leaf lettuce, almonds, criolla, yogurt and spicy chili jam on a sun dried tomato tortilla. She ordered quinoa (quinoa tossed in Tahini glaze with broccoli, tomato, feta and pepitas, peppers, pecans and olives) as her side. It was good, but pretty bland even with all the added ingredients. She added John’s spicy hot corn to it, and liked it better.
This was John’s Steak Sandwich (marinated fresh skirt steak, topped with sautéed peppers, queso blanco, jicama slaw, tomato, steak sauce, served on an Amazon crunch bun). Very good. The sweet corn was roasted and tossed in ahi amarillo crema. It was spicy hot, and when John mentioned it was too spicy for his taste, they offered to bring him another bowl of corn. It was much more to his liking. The corn appears to be fresh off the cob.
Ever-Lovin’ got the Perico Breakfast Wraps (scrambled eggs, cheddar, cilantro, onions, peppers) with chorizo and potatoes. Delish!
Nazca Kitchen serves breakfast from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm daily, and it is opened until 9:00 pm Sunday through Thursday, and 10:pm on Friday and Saturday. It is located at 8041 Walnut Hill Lane at Central Expressway.
We had an enjoyable meal. The staff was attentive and friendly. The flavors of our dishes were slightly different than our “normal”, but not so different that I did not like it. What impressed me the most was how fresh everything tasted.
We are looking forward to returning to Nazca Kitchen in the near future.
