Dallas – Big D – Little A – Double L – A – S. What wonderful changes are happening in our fair city. Ever-Lovin’ says that today we accomplished a trifecta. We visited Klyde Warren Park, had lunch from the food trucks, and visited the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. All in one day! How good is that?
First stop was the Klyde Warren Park. (For more information go to this website.) This amazing five plus acre park is on the upper deck of the recessed Woodall Rogers Freeway between St. Paul and Pearl streets. You have to see it to believe it. As a connection between Uptown, The Arts District, and Downtown Dallas its goal is to serve as a central gathering place for Dallas and its visitors. As Mikel said, “This is something you would expect in New York or other big cities. It is so cool.”
Jane’s Lane spans the entire length of the park. This granite lined path is perfect for jogging or strolling. Jane’s Lane is lined with red oaks, and the plans are to add wooden benches and lighting to the path.
Practice your putting skills on the East Lawn. Hate to admit it, but Ever-Lovin’ beat me. (Wish I was as tall and as skinny as my shadow.)
You can play table tennis. There is a man there to loan you sports equipment.
Our group had fun playing table hockey.
In the center of the park is the Great Lawn.
At one end of the Great Lawn is a Performance Pavilion for concerts and other events. People were playing soccer and throwing footballs in this area. Everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time, and they were so relaxed.
Hot Rod had so much fun playing in the Children’s Park. This area is filled with playground equipment.
This is another view of the Children’s Park. All of the surfaces are soft, and there is plenty to do.
Look at this. There are several of these racks filled with magazines and books you can read or borrow. I thought this was so neat. There are tables available nearby for you to use. Also in this area, people can play games – checkers, chess, etc.
This made me laugh. I think this is right. A knitting group meets in this area and knits sweaters for the trees. They are beyond cute.
Being up among the skyscrapers is an exhilarating feeling.
Other park areas include My Best Friend’s Park (a dog park), a Botanical Garden, and spaces for the food trucks.
On the wall to Klyde Warren Park are these words, “common ground, uncommon beauty.” I couldn’t agree more. I know I am looking forward to my next visit. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Parking can be a challenge, but we were able to park free on a side street. There are daily activities planned, and you can see the calendar of events on the Klyde Warren Park website. On some Mondays from 12:20 to 1:00 there is a man who gives Skyline Tours. Now that is something I want to do.
I liked it. I loved it. I so want to go again.
Blessings to you and yours,
Sweet Mother of Pearl – This day was beyond wonderful. I am looking forward to telling you about the food trucks and the Perot Museum in future blogs.
