After processing a bazillion shoes at Buckner International, the gang was hungry. Alex (the young man in charge of volunteers) suggested we go to the Circle Grill. I guess you would call the Circle Grill an institution in Dallas – it has been here since the 1950’s.It is a diner sort of place with “home cooking”. I remember going to the Circle Grill with my Uncle Vic. He and Aunt Vida lived at the Buckner Retirement Village (that is probably not the correct name), and when we would go to visit them, he always wanted us to take him to the Circle Grill. I hadn’t thought of it – or rather I guess I should say – I had forgotten about it.
This is the type of place where you get an entrée and two vegetables with rolls – They don’t call it a Blue Plate Special, but that is what it is.
Deciding what to order was difficult. There were so many choices.
Nancy got the meatloaf. She said it was good, but not as good as hers. Since it has been mentioned before what an excellent cook Nancy is, it would be hard for their meatloaf to be as good as hers.
Robert – the one who was kind and gave me okra – got the vegetable plate. That is purty, healthy, and he liked it.
Several in the group got the salmon croquettes. They were one of the daily specials. They were okay to good. We all talked about how we no longer make salmon croquettes at home. I used to have my cousin Dory’s recipe for salmon croquettes, and I thought they were so good. I wonder if I can find that recipe?
I ordered the chicken fried steak. (for research purposes) Every diner in Texas is judged by its chicken fried steak – Right?? It was good. It was made with what I call real meat, and the breading wasn’t too thick. I would order it again.
Robert and Ann ordered breakfast, and I think they were winners. Here is Robert’s breakfast bowl. Sweet Mother of Pearl! Doesn’t that look scrumptious?
Here are Ann’s eggs and pancakes – Yummy! Breakfast at the Circle Grill is on my to do list.
Okay, this is what I am ordering the next time we go to the Circle Grill. Janet got the BLT. Be still my heart! Isn’t that gorgeous! There must be enough bacon on it for Cox’s Army. She said it was delicious.
Truthfully, friend BB and I are plotting our next Circle Grill order. We are going to split a BLT, and then we can split a slice of one of the pies – maybe the coconut. The pies looked wonderful, but we were all too full…
If you are in the neighborhood, (Buckner and I30) do go to the Circle Grill. You will be glad you did.
Blessings to you and yours,
