We went to the fair. Not just any fair, but THE State Fair of Texas. There is none better!
It had been several years since we last went to the State Fair of Texas, and I must say that this year it was good! Everything was so clean and the buildings were beautiful. As Ever-Lovin’ said, this is a bloggers heaven. It will take me several blogs to show and tell about our great day at the State Fair of Texas.
As we entered the fair, this gentleman was there to greet and direct us. He was SO much fun and SO friendly. No, he wasn’t Big Tex, but he made us feel welcomed, and we knew we were in for a good day. As we left, he was there to thank us for coming and was still just as friendly. He is the perfect person for this job.
We entered through what I would call the back of the fair (Big Tex is at the front).
Here was the midway in all its glory! There were enough games and rides to keep some people busy an entire day in just this area.
It was Senior Citizen’s day (Thursdays), and we got in free. The games didn’t have many players today. I guess this just isn’t the demographics for giant Tweety Birds.
Ever-Lovin’ and I decided that if we were going to eat our way through the fair (and isn’t that one of the main reasons to go to the fair) we had best get started. We share. (Then I don’t feel quite as guilty.) This is the Walking Taco. It is like a Frito Pie, but it is made in a bag of Doritos, with taco meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, black olives, jalapeños, cheese, sour cream and salsa. It was very tasty, and I am planning to do this for the gang in the very near future.
Next, we noticed the Greenhouse on the Midway. We hesitated to go in, but are we ever glad we did. It is a gem!
Sweet Mother of Pearl! Look at this – waterfalls, model trains, and lush landscaping! The exhibit is sponsored by Southern Living Botanicals, and it is wonderful. Do make plans to visit here.
In among the foliage, were models of famous Texas landmarks. Love the Alamo.
And the Ft. Worth Live Stock Exchange building.
One thing I did not like. So much of the activity (performances and demonstrations) are only on the weekend. I felt a little cheated.
Be still my heart! I would have loved to have seen this pumpkin carver in action.
The model trains were good! Mr. Fixer had it up and running again in no time.
I love beautiful flowers.
As we left the Greenhouse, there was a pumpkin painting area for the little ones. This pretty girl was actually jumping for joy over her pumpkin. I just loved it!
I hate to tell you, but in this blog, I have only covered the first thirty minutes of our five hour day at the State Fair of Texas. I have not told you about the other bazillion things we saw and tasted, but I will. I promise I will move faster next time.
Blessings to you and yours,
Hope you get to go to the great State Fair of Texas. I am glad I got to go. If you go, let me know what you like the most. I love hearing from you.
