For the WOW (Women of Wallace) + Gene gathering, the food preparation was easy breezy. The guest brought salads, and were they ever good! (I will be sharing recipes soon.) The plan was to have a mini-dessert bar like I had seen on other blogs. It was so much fun to think about all the possibilities and then to put it all together.
Mini-desserts are so popular now days. You see them in many restaurants and bakeries. People want a little sweet to end their meal, but they are not up to eating a full size dessert with a bazillion calories. The silver ( I think it is plastic.) tray was bought at Dollar Tree. (Yes, everything is a dollar except candy is 79 cents.) Ever-Lovin’ painted the center of the tray with chalkboard paint, and we now have a sign that can be used again and again. I’m lovin’ the chalkboard paint.
The idea was to have a table filled with mini-desserts. It was not necessary to have one of each dessert for each guest. If we ran out of one dessert, there were plenty more to choose from. Can you find the missing desserts? This picture was taken before everything was plated.
The white tasting spoons (from Christmas Tree Shops) were filled with a spoonful of store bought apple pie and drizzled with caramel sauce. I told you these were easy.
Lime pies (I didn’t use Key limes so these were really lime pies) were baked in mini canning jars. You can buy these jars in many places, but I think I got these at Walmart.
Around here, this dessert is called Better Than Sex, (Does that tell you how good it is?) A more proper name would be Chocolate Layer Dessert. The mini triffle bowls are from Libby, and I bought them recently at Home Goods. They are too cute, and I can think of so many uses for them.
The banana pudding recipe is a friend’s family recipe. You begin with an instant vanilla pudding mix, and add just enough other ingredients to make a super yummy delicious pudding. This is one of Ever-Lovin’s favorite desserts. This is too easy. You buy the mini tart shells at the grocery store. They are usually next to the pie fillings. Fill the shells with lemon curd (store bought will do) and top with a blackberry. These were under a dome (not a good idea), and no one ate them, but they really are tasty.
Miniature strawberry shortcakes were made with store bought angel food cake and fresh strawberries. We used whipped cream in the can because we thought it would be easy. It deflated really really really fast. I won’t try to cut that corner again. The little boat shaped containers were found at the restaurant supply store. They had several choices of mini-dessert bowls and even packages of miniature spoons and forks. Just goes to show how popular the mini-dessert craze is.
Rice Krispie balls were a good idea, but they were not my favorite. Chocolate okay – blue candy decor not okay. You could break a tooth.
Chocolate chip cookies are always a favorite.
I happen to like – or should I say love – French macarons, and I use any excuse to get to buy them. The French macarons and coconut cupcakes were bought at Tart Bakery on Lover’s Lane in Dallas.
Number One Son made miniature popsicles. How cool (pun intended) is that? He is always thinking outside the box. Love it! Flavors were orange cream and root beer float, and they were good.
I know, this was overkill, but I loved every minute of preparing for the party, and celebrating friendships at the party. Thank you for coming!
Blessings to you and yours,
P. S. No one knows who I am at the mentioned stores. I just thought you might like to know.
