No, I wasn’t invited to the Timothy Oulton grand opening gala where the rich and famous of Dallas got to preview the famous British designer’s first stand alone home furnishings gallery in the USA, but my visit earlier this week provided me with an enjoyable experience. I liked it so much, I went back again the next day so Super Sister could see it.
FYI the store is on the east side of Central Expressway just south of the Henderson exit. The area is called Potter Square (but it is more like a triangle).
The metallic (copper, brass, stainless) entrance doors take their inspiration from the United Kingdom Union Jack flag.
As you enter the gallery, you come face to face with the yellow submarine aquarium. Sweet Mother of Pearl! It is humongous. In addition to the submarine, you get red, white, and blue fish (works for Britain, USA and Texas so they tell me). It is interesting, and they have five of these for sale at a cost of (I thought they said) $100,000 each. (Or was it $1,000,000.) I can’t remember, but no matter what, it was high end. (But then again, there probably wouldn’t be another aquarium like this in your neighborhood.)
The stars of the gallery are the furniture pieces. Timothy Oulton is know for his furniture and lighting designs. You might have seen some of his work at the Restoration Hardware showroom. Pieces are individually made using top quality materials.
The Union Jack sofa and ottoman are eye-catching. Does this ever make a statement!
Many of the tables and trunks are created from reclaimed materials.
Look at this bookcase created from what I think are ornate windows. The drum light fixture caught my eye. Then in the mix is the cowhide covered bench.
This cabinet is wonderful and has so much character!
If the Union Jack doesn’t float your boat, how about a good looking Texas trunk?
This copper sink was beyond gorgeous.
I was so taken by the bunting in this room. Loved, loved, loved it. This is what I wanted my bunting at the Big Jubilee Supper to look like.
How interesting is this? They secured books around the columns in the building. No, you can’t take one out of the stack to read. They are screwed together.
Be still my heart! These antique beehives have great texture and shapes. I like them, I love them, I want one (or more) of them.
Vintage sporting equipment looks great displayed on the wall. The locker is made from reclaimed airplanes.
Okay, this is the largest Mont Blanc fountain pen I have ever seen. It certainly makes a statement on the wall. Don’t worry, the cap to the pen is sitting on a table nearby.
There is vintage clothing for sale. The wool scarfs were beautiful – but on this summer day …
Inside the store is a florist. This might be my favorite section of the gallery. Figs are waiting to be included in an arrangement.
For a break, you can sit and enjoy scones and a drink. Basically they serve scones and other sweets. This heavenly goodness is called a Texas scone. It has a flakier crust (as compared to an English scone) surrounding a cream cheese filling. Delicious! I had hoped to enjoy a traditional tea with savories, scones, and sweets, but that is not served.
If you are near the Knox Street/Henderson area, I encourage you to visit Timothy Oulton. The staff is friendly and informative, the sweets are delicious, and the eye-candy will have your head swimming.
Blessing to you and yours,
Love ya’,
